with the news that Intel has acquired OpenedHand, the developer of 'Poky Linux' and Matchbox. "The UK-based embedded Linux services team will join the Intel Open Source Technology Center, and will focus on Moblin development for mobile Internet devices and other mobile devices." The article notes that Intel's Moblin initiative had "failed to generate much interest" among developers when first announced earlier this year; this acquisition might help it catch the attention of more Linux developers More

From Internetnews.com

"Digium, the prime corporate mover behind Asterisk, is poised to push the popular, open source PBX into the carrier space, thanks to a new partnership with UK-based carrier switch vendor Integrics.

The deal may mark a coup for Digium, Asterisk's commercial sponsors, which could see Integrics deploying its Enswitch product using Asterisk and jointly targeting carrier-class deployments.

As a result, the new move could be the first step More

Fedora Core 9 has been release this morning with several new feature. Some of the more interesting new features include a new package management system, which can be used as an alternative to pup and pirut, known as PackageKit. This release also includes GNOME 2.22 and/or KDE 4.0.3, and Firefox 3 beta 5. Overall, there are a lot of improvements worth looking at, and the Bittorrent seeds are already feeding the release fairly effectively. For more information about the release click the source More

Amazon MP3 has been around for several months now. And it’s doing pretty good. Decent amount of press coverage when it hit the stage. Decent song selection, all with decent sound quality. And just about everything is decent with the all-DRM-free program Bezos & Co are touting out in the cloud.

And now the company’s gone and done another decent thing with is music download service: it has opened its doors to Linux users.

Indeed, the Amazon MP3 Downloader software bridge with whi More

Company officials say the move is the latest step in expanding the reach of Adobe's technology.

SAN FRANCISCO—Adobe Systems hopes to make nice with the open-source community and soon deliver a Linux version of its newly released Adobe Integrated Runtime.

Kevin Lynch, chief technology officer at Adobe, said the company is working on a Linux version of AIR, a run-time that lets developers use proven Web technologies to build RIAs (rich Internet applications) that deploy to the d More

From Linux.com

"Perhaps the number one reason why people neglect to back up their desktops is the lack of workable solution. It can be difficult to find a method configurable enough to suite everyone's needs. One promising answer may be Restore, an application for enterprise and data center backup for Windows, Mac OS X, and Unix/Linux systems. It is GPLv2-licensed and freely available to download as a set of Debian/Ubuntu packages, virtual machine, or 455MB installable live CD.

Could Google Superpower be the best friend of Linux?

"Google recently confirmed in a blog posting that it had paid Codeweavers to help develop WINE to make Photoshop usable on the well-regarded but still somewhat unpredictable software package, which aims to replicate Windows libraries to enable popular Windows applications run in a Linux environment.

Woot: Photoshop CS2 running on WINE, thanks to Google"Photoshop is one of those applications that Desktop linux users are const More

M-Audio has supplied hardware and software to computer-based musicians for 20 years. Its new "make-music-now" line of products, aimed at musicians just getting into computers or PC users with an interest in music, includes a microphone, speakers, drum machine, and DJ mixer deck. Unfortunately, its bundled software, called Session, is for Windows only. Our challenge was to try out this hardware -- specifically the KeyStudio MIDI keyboard and Fast Track audio interface -- with Linux applications. More

Strange title huh? Seem a little absurb?

Well what if I told you for that price you got a wireless N router, that you could plug a printer into and share? Still not enough? How about a 1TB drive included that you can access from Linux, OS X, and Windows? Ya I thought that one would get you.

That right the good folks over at Apple are releasing a new router called the "Time Capsule". While it is designed to be used in conjunction with OS X 10.5 and Time Machine for backups, More

From ZDNET

"The folks at OpenOffice.org announced that version 3.0 is not going to be delayed and is scheduled for completion in September – as planned.

The open source Office suite marketing blog on Monday denied — and blasted reports out of Germany — that the release of OpenOffice.org 3.0 is going to be delayed from the summer of 2008 to the fall of 2008.

That sounds right. In September of 2007, Openoffice.org marketing chief John McCreesh told this ZDNet blogger t More
